Decaf: The Onchain Effect

Role

Executive Creative Director

Scope

Concept development, creative direction, film production, brand storytelling

Challenge

A busy city street scene during daytime with vehicle traffic, pedestrians walking on the sidewalk, and tall buildings in the background.

Most blockchain storytelling focuses on speculation — numbers, charts, and hype. We wanted to show something different: what blockchain actually looks like when it’s working for real people.

The launch of Decaf, a simple, mobile-first wallet built for Colombia and emerging markets, offered the perfect story to tell. It wasn’t about technology for its own sake — it was about access, dignity, and possibility.

The challenge: make a film that could resonate with builders, skeptics, and everyday users alike — without losing credibility or emotional truth.

Approach

A woman working on a laptop at a blue outdoor table, with a woman in the background holding a knife and gardening outside, surrounded by greenery and flowers.

We treated the Decaf story like a short-form documentary, not a commercial.

The goal was to capture the human texture of adoption — the rhythm of daily life, the tension between old systems and new tools, and the optimism that comes from empowerment, not promises.

Through intimate interviews, grounded conversation, and lush cinematography, the film balances education with emotion. We wove local voices with macro context, showing how stablecoin access can strengthen communities, not just markets.

The tone was documentary-real — shot on location in Bogotá — with natural light, ambient sound, and a pace that invited reflection. Every frame was designed to feel both cinematic and human, delivering substance over spectacle.

Results

The Decaf film became one of Stellar’s most successful storytelling pieces to date:

  • 1M+ views across channels

  • Strong organic traction and global social pickup

  • Featured by industry media as an example of authentic blockchain storytelling

  • Significant lift in brand sentiment and share of voice across LATAM audiences

  • Established a new storytelling model within Stellar — using documentary-style film to communicate real-world blockchain adoption

Impact

The Decaf documentary reframed how the ecosystem, and even competitors, think about storytelling in blockchain.

It proved that when we lead with humanity, honesty, and visual craft, even the most complex technologies can become deeply relatable.

It’s blockchain, but told through the lens of trust, access, and human potential.
